Entity clarity: does anyone know who you actually are?
September 22, 2026
Run this test: open your homepage and look for one sentence that states your business name, what you do, and where you do it. Not in the logo, not implied by photos, written as text. "Aiko Tattoo is a private tattoo studio in Warsaw's Mokotow district." A surprising number of polished sites fail this test completely.
Machines do not do vibes
A human infers from your imagery, your Polish phone number, and your street photos. A crawler extracts entities: named things and typed facts. When your identity lives entirely in design, the machine's model of you is a guess, and guesses lose to competitors who stated the facts.
This matters double for AI assistants, which answer "best X near me" style questions by recommending specific businesses. To be recommendable you must be legible: name, place, offer, all in text.
The fixes, in order of effort
- The homepage sentence. One plain sentence near the top: who, what, where. It reads naturally to humans and is gold to machines.
- NAP in the footer. Name, address, phone as text on every page, consistent to the character with your Google Business Profile.
- Service area statements. "Serving Auburn, Grass Valley, and the greater Sacramento area" on the pages where it is true.
- Schema confirmation. LocalBusiness JSON-LD repeating the same facts, so the text and the markup corroborate each other.
The consistency trap
Three slightly different business names across your site, socials, and directory listings read as three weak entities instead of one strong one. Pick the canonical form and use it everywhere.
Our scan runs an entity clarity check across your crawled pages: whether name, location, and services are plainly stated. It is one of the AI checks where small-business sites lose the most points, and the fix is often literally one sentence.
Quick answers
What is entity clarity?
Whether a machine reading your site can state plainly who you are, what you do, and where you operate. If those three facts are not written anywhere as plain text, you have an entity clarity problem.
Why does my location matter for AI answers?
Assistants answer a huge share of commercial questions with local recommendations. If your service area is not stated in text and schema, you are not in the candidate set for those answers.
